Worcester scraps taxi fare rise after drivers reverse support

67 said no, two yes in late survey; council keeps 2022 tariffs — process cost about £1,400.

Worcester City Council has abandoned a planned hackney fare rise after the taxi association’s members rejected it in a late survey.

Worcester News reports June approval would have lifted Tariff 1 from £4.30 to £5 and Tariff 2 from £5.50 to £6.40. Statutory consultation then showed the association saying most members opposed the hike — 67 against, two for — after the council had been told the trade fully backed it. Licensing chair Richard Udall called the process frustrating but asked the committee to keep 2022 charges. A later full-council answer put the administrative cost of the U-turn at about £1,400.
