Ipswich hackney fares may rise after 72% of drivers back hike

Executive 8 Sep: two-mile day fare £8→£8.10 from ~13 Oct if advertised and unopposed.

Ipswich Borough Council’s Executive was due to consider advertising a modest hackney fare rise backed by most surveyed drivers.

Reporting says the Ipswich Station Taxi Tenants Association polled 146 drivers (130 replies): 94 for an increase (72%), 36 against. Proposed changes shorten meter distance intervals and lift waiting by about 3.24% (CPI), putting a two-mile daytime trip at £8.10 from £8, night £10.10 from £10. Officers cite fuel and insurance costs; 150 hackneys include 35 WAVs. Subject to statutory consultation, tariffs could start on or after 13 October 2026. PHV prices stay outside the card.
